  • NOTE

    VISA

As an international student, you must apply for a Student Visa before coming to China to start your courses. Otherwise, you will not be able to register for your study at HKUST(GZ). Refer to Chinese Visa Application Service Center for more information about the visa application:

    ELECTRICITY

In China, power outlets provide 220V electricity. Make sure to have plug adapters and a voltage converter. Contact the manufacturer to find out your device's electricity requirements, especially for computers or important electrical devices. If unsure, always use a voltage converter to avoid malfunction or electrical fire.

    INTERNET SERVICE

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) offers free high-speed wireless internet service throughout the academic buildings and dorm.

    CELL PHONE

Cell phones that take SIM cards can generally be used in China if they have been unlocked, but you should check with your carrier and the phone manufacturer before arriving. You should not retain your non-Chinese phone plan for use in China as fees for international roaming are extraordinarily high. You can buy a local SIM card after your arrival on campus.

    ONLINE PAYMENT

Online payment is extremely popular in China. Download WeChat and Alipay, and link your international bank cards to pay like a local.

If you have brought an approved original medical report, you will be exempt from certain parts of the check-up, but you will still need to schedule an appointment to the designated hospital to apply for an official certificate.

    Fees:

The doctor will review your overseas physical examination report (issued within 6 months) and determine if additional tests are necessary as well as which items you will need to undergo, along with the associated costs.
